U.S. Crane Industry Needs a Safety Makeover

There’s been too many high profile fatal crane accidents this year and in 2006. Members of the crane industry got together as a way to make crane safety a priority. According to the movers and shakers in the crane industry, the media sensationalized the negative but this meeting was a way to talk about the negatives and work toward some positives.

In Florida there was a push by many local counties to draft and try and pass regulations around cranes. Unfortunately, each county has different compliance. Not all the proposed regulations made sense or increased safety.

High profile crane accidents have occurred in Miami, Oklahoma, Las Vegas and to crane accidents in tony Manhattan.

The crane industry should not hide or pretend there is not a problem but should instead confront it head on. But the real crane safety goal is no accidents and no fatalities.
